Introduction
Medical devices for apheresis therapy, bioartificial organs, and biomedical materials are the major interests in our laboratory.
Apheresis therapy is designed to remove pathogenic substances in patients’ blood. It contributes to the treatments of many severe diseases such as liver failure, autoimmune diseases, and hypercholesteremia. We develop new adsorbents for more selective pathogen removal.
Bioartificial organs, the hybrid-type artificial organs with cells and artificial materials, attract the attention as new treatments in the near future. We research noble bioartificial liver and bioartificial pancreas utilizing human cells in collaboration with medical researchers.
